The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union is grateful to its partner organizations for their investment in and commitment to student-athletes and communities across the state of Iowa. This featured blog series will highlight our partners and showcase why they invest in the IGHSAU, how they are supporting Iowans during this difficult time and words of encouragement for the Iowa Girl. We will also share ways in which you, the reader, can in turn support these businesses and organizations in return as a way thank them for their investment in the IGHSAU.

Why does Iowa Farm Bureau support the IGHSAU and the Iowa Girl?

Iowa farm Bureau knows that strong, vibrant schools are the cornerstone of many of our communities, that’s why we are proud to be the sole title sponsor of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU). One of the reasons the relationship between the IGHSAU and Farm Bureau has been steadfast for over 15 years is that we share similar values and philosophies. Both our organizations are committed to helping students prepare for life beyond high school and work to create experiences for students that will help them develop skills to be positive contributors to their communities as adults.

How is Iowa Farm Bureau supporting Iowa communities during this time?

The Iowa Farm Bureau has donated $100,000 to the Iowa Food Bank Association (IFBA) to help address the growing need for food across the state during the COVID-19 crisis. This donation will provide at least 550,000 meals for Iowans struggling through this challenging time. Iowa farmers have always pulled together to help their communities out during challenging times, and the Farm Bureau family is happy to do what we can to help bridge the food gap in our communities during this crisis.

In addition to the $100,000 donation, Iowa Farm Bureau will provide a match up to $500 to any of Iowa’s 100 county Farm Bureaus that have made a donation to their local food bank from March 1, 2020, through April 24, 2020. The locally raised funds will either go to the food pantry in that county, if one exists, or to fund a mobile food pantry that serves the county.

What else should the IGHSAU community know about Iowa Farm Bureau?

Our partnership with the IGHSAU is very important, but Farm Bureau celebrates Iowa’s youth in many other ways. In addition to our commitment to student-althetics, Farm Bureau is proud to support:

  • Iowa schools with millions of dollars in infrastructure support
  • Educational programs (such as 4-H, FFA and Ag in the Classroom) teaching Iowa’s youth about how agriculture touches them
  • Provide over $250,000 in scholarships each year to Iowa students
  • And provide teachers with funding to help them purchase classroom supplies through our Teacher Supplement Grant Program

How can the IGHSAU community support Iowa Farm Bureau?

The spirit of farm communities has always been one of working together and giving back even in times when they themselves are struggling. We ask that everyone stand together and do what they can to support Iowa farmers and their efforts to not only keep grocery store shelves full but also feed hungry Iowans in need.
