The 2022-23 basketball season begins with first practice on November 7 and the first competitions tipping off on November 18. Iowa currently has five classes of girls basketball. The largest 40 school districts are 5A, the next 48 are 4A, followed by next 64 as 3A, the next 80 are 2A and remaining schools are 1A.
The official tournament basketball is the Spalding TF1000 Legacy (women’s).
The Iowa Girls High School State Basketball Tournament will be held February 27-March 4 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, with the following regional tournament dates:
- Class 1A: February 9, 14, 17, 22
- Class 2A: February 11, 14, 17, 22
- Class 3A: February 11, 15, 18
- Class 4A: February 15, 18, 21
- Class 5A: February 15, 18, 21
