Weekly Training Tip #19 - Abductor Band Series

The focus here is the abductors of the leg and knee. All three movements are important in gaining hip strength, stability, and mobility. This series is applicable for all ages and skill levels. This series can be used as a warm-up for the hips before athletes begin weights or can be mixed in during workouts. The banded monster walks start in a deep squat. The goal is to focus stepping with the knee over top the foot, maintaining pressure into the band. The focus of this movement is to increase an athlete's ability to keep their knees out in positions that involve hip and knee flexion. The side leg raise movement improves abduction of the whole leg, starting at the hip. Clams also improve abduction of the leg in flexion angles, and strengthen the gluteus medius.
